Why Dialysexy?

There are many times in the human lifespan when our experience of sexuality shifts. This can be related to changes in our body, such as during and after puberty, menopause, pregnancy and childbirth, along the process of aging, or related to a change in health status. Changes in our sexuality and sexual functioning also occur during and after times of emotional turmoil - during and after periods of trauma, grief and loss, stress, or depression. If that weren’t enough, shifts in our relationship status can also impact sexual functioning and desire.

With that in mind, dialysis patients are not alone in their journey to navigate changes in their experiences of sexuality. However dialysis does uniquely impact relationship dynamics, sexual functioning, and desire in a variety of ways. Concerns about changes in sexuality and sexual functioning are often impacted by a lack of information and direction on how to respond to these changes. Because of a general dearth of education and training on healthy sexuality and sexual functioning, even healthcare professionals who support dialysis patients are frequently unsure what guidance or support to provide.

That is why Dialysexy was created - to provide non-judgmental support, education, and resources to dialysis patients, their loved ones, and the professionals who support them. As you navigate the site, you are invited to reach out with questions or feedback on how Dialysexy can better meet this goal.
